Welcome to Baker's Chinchillas. My name is Shari Baker; I am a hobby breeder of show quality chinchillas. I specialize in Ebonies and Standards, but have a few other colors to keep things interesting. You can see them on the My Herd page. My love of chinchillas began many years ago when I was given a chinchilla by someone that could no longer keep him. He was a standard gray, a real sweetie named Arthur. We had Arthur for almost 7 years, until he passed away at the ripe old age of 15. We were heart broken when we lost Arthur and did not own any chins for many years. Several years ago I saw a young Black Velvet male in a pet store. I had admired him and talked to him, in his cage, on my frequent visits to the store. One day the owner suggested I hold him. He went home with me that very day. I instantly fell in love with him. In honor of our first chinchilla, we named him Arthur II. There are pictures of Arthur II on the My Herd page. Kevin will tell you it was a down hill slide from that point; I began researching and studying chins in depth, I joined the local chapter of MCBA and met a few of the local chinchilla breeders. I decided I wanted to start breeding and showing chinchillas and the following spring I bought approximately 30 show quality chinchillas. Today I maintain a herd of almost 40 breeders. I have begun showing a few of them. You can see some of my winners on the Show page. On the Nursery page you can see some of the babies I have raised. Occasionally I have a few kits available for show, breeding or pets.
